Monica Casalet is a researcher in the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO-Mexico) she’s a member of the Mexican Social Sciences Academy and a part of Mexican National Research System. She was invited to join the Transition Team for Science and technology put forward by president Vicente Fox, and also by the current president Felipe Calderon

The study of knowledge-based society, which stresses the growing importance of knowledge as a key productive factor in strengthening national competitiveness and attention to the social demands of growth. The research conducted addresses the reorganization of the institutional environment to facilitate new organizational responses where national and international agency networks become important, by introducing flexibility within and outside the institutions (academia, business and public sector) to develop the capacity transmit information and absorption of new learning, qualities essential in managing the complexity of the knowledge-based society.

 International and national projects beyond EU Framework Programme
She takes part in professional consultancy teams with many international institutions such as ECLAC, ILO, IDRC and IDB. Also in Mexican National Institutions such as CONACYT, NAFIN, the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry of Economic. She’s a member of the Research Consortia EULAKS Project approved by 7th Framework Program Title “Connecting socioeconomic research on the dynamics of the knowledge Economy in LAC”. (Agreement 217190-2007/10) She was the coordinator of the Knowledge Economic in LAC Program supported by IDRC grant 102497-003 2006/09.

She was a consultant for IDRC and ECLAC to elaborate the Nicaragua STI Program. She has been invited to integrate the team organized by IDRC and ECLAC to elaborate the Panama STI Program.

She has published widely on institution innovation, intermediary institutions on STI and public policy on STI in LAC. She’s an advisor in the Editorial Boards of several Latin-American Journals in this field.
