Brief description of your activity focus
Global Poverty and Justice. Impact on health and the ethical problems in health research. Global governance and the role of international organization

Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
This research team has been working on global poverty and justice, the multidimensional character of poverty and its reflection on measurements. Innovative positions regarding its eradication. We have specially worked its impact on health and the ethical problems in health research (for example, the 90/10 gap and the unbalance and inequalities it shows). We have also had projects on the impact of property rights and patents in global inequalities, new ways of recognizing innovation, for example regarding the access to medicines. This also lead to an analysis of the global governance and the role of international organizations. We have also elaborated a new and dynamic way of analyzing vulnerabilities (specially in the context of research ethics and policy making). This kind of work make our team specially suited to collaborate with a consortium working on combating poverty also regarding the Rule of Law and Justice in a multilevel governance system, and in relation to Cultural encounters.
 Research Activities

International and national projects beyond EU Framework Programme
I am the National Contact Point (NCP) in Social Science and Humanities (SSH) of Argentina (National Directorate of International Relations- Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation). In addition, I am a researcher myself of FLACSO (Latin American University of Social Sciences), an overly prestigious institution that has seats in other Latin American countries (such as Brazil, Mexico, Chile or Costa Rica). I am the Director of Bioethics Area and I also lead a group of Argentinean researchers. Since 2005 I am a member of the Scientific Committee of the Forum on Research in Health in Argentina (FISA), which establishes research priorities for the country.
I have a broad experience in the direction of research projects. I am an independent researcher at CONICET (National Scientific and Technological Research Council) since 2000. I have directed and co-directed several national and international research projects. In 2005 I became a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR) “HEALTHRESEARCHETHICS” which was funded (FP6-2005-SCIENCE-AND-SOCIETY-14 Call). Since 1999 I have a grant as Co-PI (co- Principal Investigator) with Ruth Macklin (co-PI) of a Research Training Grant of the Fogarty International Center, NIH (National Institutes of Health- (US)) to train researchers in ethics and research fields. Since 2006, I am the principal researcher ( 2006-2011). I directed several projects for young researchers at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) on ethical aspects of research with human subjects since 2000, at Fundación Antorchas and at CONICET. I am an Expert of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS). I was part of the Steering Committee of CIOMS, and I worked on the International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects. In 2005, I became a member or the Steering Committee of the Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR). I was also the President of the International Association of Bioethics (IAB) during 2003 to 2005. I won the Guggenheim Foundation Fellow (2006).
As director of the Bioethics Program in FLACSO. I designed, direct and coordinate the Diploma in Bioethics and I am implementing a Specialization in Bioethics degree on line.
I have also several books on bioethics as well as published more than 80 articles in national and international journals and books such as Bioethics and Vulnerability: A Latin American View, Value Inquiry Book Series, RODOPI, Amsterdam - NY, 2006.
