Brief description of your activity focus
SPES is a regional development and adult education centre with a focus on citizens participation, sustainability and interconnectedness.

Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
For more than 30 years SPES has been working on projects for sustainable development and sustainable future
scenarios. Its activities are aimed at the benefit of both today’s society and future generations. In Austria the
association is well-known as pioneer of regional and local development. More than 150 local development
processes have been assisted by SPES focusing on citizen’s participation and ownership. SPES has developed and
carried out many projects concerning local development and life-quality in rural areas and has profound
knowledge in training people for sustainability and entrepreneurial thinking.

SPES also owns a hotel/adult education centre and was coordinator of the local tourism office thus fostering the
founding of the new tourism association consisting of five neighbouring municipalities. The hotel received the
award “Hotel der Zukunft” (“Hotel of the Future”) 2013 and 2014 and was awarded Upper Austrian winner of the
“Genusswirte” competition in 2015 (category “Hotel Restaurant”).

SPES Future Academy has a lot of experience and expertise in processes of interconnectedness and participation
and has organized and conducted many successful conferences and lectures. Thus SPES is offering the
implementation of Agenda 21 processes on local community level.

Since 2000 SPES has participated as subcontractor, partner and lead partner in many different EU projects.
Examples: EQUAL (2005-2007; LEAD): Sozialwirtschaftlicher Cluster Steyr-Kirchdorf; LEADER (2009-2011):
Innovative Nahvorsorge; CENTRAL EUROPE (2010-2013): Vital Landscapes; Leonardo (2013-2015; LEAD):
