 Brief description of your activity focus
Geography and economics of regional development, labour markets, agglomeration, processes of innovation and diffusion, peripheries, EU regional policy

 Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
My main topics at the moment are regional labour markets, commuting, teleworking, human capital as a means of
knowledge transfer, the regional branching of industries, and the role of urban amenities. Other topics I have worked
on and am still interested in are the geography and economics of agglomeration, processes of innovation and
innovation diffusion, and EU regional policy. In the past, I have also worked on ’softer’ topics, such as processes of
globalization in the diffusion of Western classical music around the world, and the perception of ‘the countryside’
among Italians.

Methodologically, I work mainly with Linked Employer-Employee Data (LEED) as well as other types of Microdata;
through Statistics Netherlands I have excellent access to the universe of Dutch employees and firms. Moreover, my
department has strong capabilities in patent data, networking, and sectoral data, as well as migration, inequality,
and health.
