The Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU) is a cutting-
edge academic institution in Southeast Europe. Encompassing 18 independent but interconnected research
institutes, it has a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary character. ZRC SAZU has its own publishing house and a
bookstore. Its researchers are deeply involved in teaching at different universities in Slovenia and abroad, where
they disseminate the results of their research work. Since 2004, ZRC SAZU has offered a research-intensive
doctoral programme entitled “Comparative Studies of Ideas and Cultures” at the University of Nova Gorica and the
Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU.

The Institute of Philosophy of ZRC SAZU was founded in 1980. Its research group significantly contributes
to ongoing international philosophical debates. Its systematically and continuously examined fields of research
include ethics, aesthetics, political philosophy, philosophy of science, and philosophy of history. Research also
focuses on contemporary philosophy, combined with the study of the legacies of great philosophical systems, such
as German Idealism, and exploring the philosophical significance of political events, scientific developments,
psychoanalysis, and modern and contemporary art. Its researchers have published books with esteemed publishers
such as Verso, Duke University Press, California University Press, Merve, Kant+Thuria, MIT Press, and Suhrkamp.
The Institute offers a graduate program and publishes its own academic journal, Filozofski vestnik, and two book
series.
