Brief description of your activity focus
An interdisciplinary Archaeology research group focused on the development of an online open database map of the Roman World.

Details about Expertise / Competences / Technologies
The Tabula Imperii Romani (TIR) and Forma Orbis Romani (FOR) projects have been undertaken
during the last century under the auspices of the Union Académique Internationale (UAI). These have been the two
great Roman world topographical projects with scientific targets.

A group of countries currently part of the present International Commission (Italy, France, Romania, Poland,
Hungary, Japan and Spain) established the outlines for upgrading the TIR-FOR project and to work with a
methodology focused on the ICT use. This methodology includes transferring in a large geographical database the
amount of hardcopy information already accumulated through the history of the TIR-FOR project as well as
providing for updating existing records and generating new ones. This system displays archaeological data in an
online mapping application.

This will be an open access interactive map with additional information and link. This is to be developed in three
main work areas:
1-Fine tuning the TIR-FOR methodology adapting it to needs of all countries that once belonged to the
Roman world.
2-The digitisation of information already held in the TIR volumes corresponding to that of each
participating team’s country, as well as their updating
3-The online promulgation and dissemination of information.

Once completed, this will provide a high scientific quality management information tool for the Roman world
archaeological heritage.
